How to Create a Cross Fade Blend Between Sounds in Ableton

The Rotary X mixing tool allows you to map a wave function onto the volume control of eight tracks. It's basically a giant cross fader with eight nodes rather than two. MW Hammond says it was inspired by Brian, his first day afternoon, because he was listening to that record and trying to count the layers. He noticed there were maybe 10 or so layers happening at the same time.
