What Is a Monk?

St. John Chrysostom declares that a monk is superior to a king. A true monk is a citizen of heaven not of earth even though he dwells on the earth. St. Eftathios wrote this, it's very beautiful. He says, Bear in mind that you're an angel of light even though you are wearing all black. You have been appointed to stand beside the true light.
