The Compact Theory of the United States
The founding fathers were quite fond of the dutch federation, about which althusius wrote. The evidence is entirely in support of the compact theory. In 17 76, it was declared that the crime of treason would be thought of not as being rated against the states united into an indivisible blob but against the states individually.
