People who serve in the military are different for people who don't, says Dr. Richard Vedder. The first step was to go back to the Vietnam War when there was a military draft and kind of realized that because the draft was implemented through a lottery, then we get two groups that are comparable just like in a randomized experiment. These groups are not identical but they're comparable exantee because of the randomization.
