The Interplay Between Volume and Calorie Content Signals

There's clearly an interplay between the volume signal and the calorie content signal. Energy density seems to be the variable that helps us determine when we are going to discontinue a meal. So if you're eating a meal, and the energy density of the entire meal is less than about 1.75 calories per gram, then volume is probably going to be the key signal that causes you to end it. As you start eating meals that are more calorically dense, there is a greater likelihood that the caloriecontent signal is going to terminate the meal before the volume signal kicks in.
