The idea behind wearing a mouth guard is that if you're able to clinch your jaw when you're trying to exert maximam force or maximum power, just clinching a feeling will help you be able to increase force output in some other part of the body. So for examplea like tinsing your corps before you do most lifts will be able to help you increase force output a little bit.
