The Rise of Baby Got Back

In 1992 billboard started using a system called the sound scan system to tally music sales at the retail counter and on the radio side they started using something called BDS broadcast data systems. It is kind of inconceivable that baby got back spends a full month at number one if sound scan doesn't come along. A record like that might be morning show fodder it might be considered a novelty record by retailers but they're probably not going to report it as their number one record given both its hip hop cred and its novelty status unless sound scan is accurate.
