Paul Ryan: I did not know that McLuhan sort of talked about this about spirituality, religious practices and technology. This is actually surprisingly similar to what Isabella and I were talking about in the past week. Heidegger always tends to go back to etymology so we were looking at where it actually comes from. There's this idea of carrying a cross, but it used to mean something like transfer of ownership or over a cross and the bear kind of means carry. So there's a sense of transferring something or carrying from one place to another, maybe a cross domain.
