The author's start into software development was 1983, so don't feel too bad about your case here. Many of the techniques that teams have created in rejection to that big upfront way of working are starting to become much more reminiscent of those approaches because they've been created by a bunch of people who only come into industry in the past kind of 10 or maybe 15 years or so. Conferences are to blame here, of course, because if you try and put a talk forward to a conference and talk about all the old stuff, it'll never get accepted anyway. And yeah, we're just not going to teach you history.
