Do You Pray Before the Food?
Prayer is not a checklist we give to God, but it's not a checklist he gives to us either. We pray before meals because we don't forget our food either. But if he can connect something forgettable to something unforgettable, then maybe we'll always remember him like we promise every week. Oh yes, give us this day our daily bread and tomorrow. In fact, by lunch I'll be hungry again. And I'll be grateful. Before this hallowed helper who's giving us so much.
