On average, higher income meant increases in brain surface area and higher cognition. The relationship between income and children's brain structure was actually steepest at the low end of the income distribution. An extra $10,000 for a family earning $100,000 a year would certainly be nice, but probably wouldn't have a dramatic effect on their day to day lives.
