084: Rome Arrives in the Hellenistic East

Amaketia was established between Rome and the Ptolemies and Salukas. It appears to be an informal establishment of friendly relations, without any real legal requirements for either party. The Republic certainly manipulated the political framework of the Adriatic coast but we have no evidence of any garrisons being installed. No soldiers were levied from these cities, nor was there any Roman military activity in the region for nearly a decade. Once they made peace with Tuta, the legions evacuated and returned to Italy, while cities like Porcyra and Apollonia were to be left free.
