The Emergencies Act of Canada Is a Federal Law That Can Be Invoked in the Event of a National Emergency
The Emergencies Act which became law in 1988 is a federal law that can be used by the federal government in the event of a national emergency. The act contains a specific definition of national emergency that makes clear how serious a situation needs to be before the acting can be relied upon and they go on to explain and summarize what we actually just read in the act itself. There are four types of emergencies that can be declared under the act: public welfare emergency, public order emergency an international emergency and a war emergency well clearly this is not a public warfare emergency or a war emergency it was a public order emergency and so that was specifically what was declared on February 14th in Canada.
