Isikatimiya Music

Isikatimiya is a Zulu word which means to walk or step on your toes quietly. In the early 19th century, native South Africans worked six days a week. Sunday was the only day free from work so they danced and made music. Many people did not like how loud the music was - it became called tiptoe music. This new music involved mixing different voice sounds together in beautiful harmonies.
