A Character's Interaction With a Butter Knife

When writing a novel, you want to make sure that your character interacts with things in three different ways. If every time they have an interaction with the same sword it's telegraphing how that's going to be used in the big climactic plot point. It also makes it seem very flat and atificial,. lik a, you know, a butter knife is normally used to spread butter. However, i have also used the butter knife to unlock a door a anda to scrape paint off some tile in our new bathroom. A, these are not, either of them approved uses for terknives.
