The Trouble With Galba's Clean-Up Operation

Nero had effectively cleaned out the state reserves and left the empire essentially broke. The new emperor pursued such a tone-deaf clean-up operation that whatever good will he had coming to him was immediately squandered. Galba's officers soon found themselves ordered to seize property from families who would acquire the goods in question blamelessly. This, as you can imagine, was not a very popular policy.
