The Question of Identity in Shakespeare's Lear
"What do Shakespeare seem to be wrestling with? And to me, that is the Shakespearean characteristic or element," he says. "It's the interrogation of questions that are so complicated and so paradoxical that we don't have an easy answer for them." The play also has this political context in that it's exploring what happens when all the structures of government or civil society are disintegrating after you lose your leader.
