The first day of the rescue operation involved anesotizing each boy one at a time. The boys were also restrained to make them seem less like human beings, but more like stuff. This was done so they would be easy to move through the cave without their arms flailing around and getting tangled up or knocked on rocks. And i think it was a very good strategy for us to be out to disconnect a little bit from the horror of what we were doing. It's hard to describe how that felt, especially that first time ipushed a boy's face into the water... Ah, that just felt wrong on so many levels.
Dr. Richard "Harry" Harris is an anesthesiologist and expert cave diver who was tasked with a seemingly impossible mission: to rescue a boys' soccer team trapped 2.5 miles deep within a flooded cave in Thailand. He talks with Maya about his decision to heed the call.
