The History of Greek Merchant Ships in the Mediterranean Sea
Archaeologists have found 46 shipwrecks that date from the 4th century BC. This would appear to indicate a very large increase in the volume of trade between these 4 centuries. As Greek merchant ships plied the Mediterranean Sea, their main imports and exports were grain, wine, and olive oil. The most common form of commercial container was a two-handled jar with a narrow neck known as an amphora.
