Danielle: I was really honored that Nadia invited me to join her on this project. It's fun to get to talk to people that you admire and have influenced your work, but it's a whole other thing when you get to work with them. She says she doesn't think respectability politics is going anywhere precisely because black women created the term in order to combat racism and sexism within a white hetero patriarchal supremacist society. Danielle: We end the book with more provocative questions than we give answers. But what we are trying to do is shed light on why it came about and how people reify it.
