The Great Flood in the Epic of Creation
The flood doesn't come into the epic of creation, it's the epic of Gilgamesh that it comes into. It looks very much as if in the earliest times each city would have its very own version which would promote its importance using Gilgamesh. We think because there are mountains around Mesopotamia, especially on the Iranian or eastern side, that gods were thought to inhabit mountains. So they built their ziggurats which we think represented where the gods lived on top of mountains and by the use of words you can make them into mountains conceptually. However they were obviously very impressive but they fell down or bits of them fell down very frequently because they were solid brick. They
