The Split in Consciousness
Kant famously says that all consciousness is self-consciousness. Hegel just isn't content he's Kantian actually he thinks that's true but he wants to in this section prove it and that's why I think that's so the section the second half of the section is so dense because what he's really trying to do is prove that are what you just said like our ability to see a split between the world of appearances and the world of things in themselves. The notion that the split in the self is the thing that makes us able to distinguish between the way things appear and the way things are in themselves is incredible right that he would come to that.
