In formal dining, the most sider it to do for weihtstaff is to be courteous in your interactions with them. It's more about wanting to communicate well with the server and have a good understanding of their job. Mind you, how like an awkwardness starts to introduce yourself can't really be separated from etiquette. And i wouldn't ever suggest doing it in a formal setting - it's just not the scene.
