"We have to find a way for her loss not to be in vain," she says. "I hear about little ways that it's touched people." A friend of Nellies had, um, I think, entertained thoughts and was struggling with gender identity. There is a scholarship in her memory through her youth group where kids who are intending to go into behavioral sciences or mental health can apply.
