Is It a Wrong Trade Off?

Employees deliberately take positions that are not a good foot for them. They know it's going to lead to burnout but they're willing, or they think they can survive that trade off. Have you seen any research in terms of guiding people who know they're putting themselves in these situations but somehow they think the trade off is worth it? I'm trying to think of things that have come across in terms of different things that might be relevant to that.
