The Connection Between Spirit and Water in Baptism

The connection between spirit and water is there all throughout scripture. We see this, for example, in jesu's baptism. What happens when jesus is baptized? When he receives the gift of the spirit from his father. And we have the declaration of the father that the son belongs to him. Jesusis baptism then becomes paradigmatic for all other baptisms. As scripture says, i am united to jesus in my baptism. I am receiving that which jesus received. In fact, we ourselves become temples of god's spirit. The theme of washing and the tie of the spirit and washing and presence of god, all of that just extends throughout scripture.
