The Buddha had a tremendous impact on those he met, at least those who were receptive to him. But gradually in parts of the Buddhist world, over the decades and then centuries, something started to get lost. The Mahayana movement arose also to correct the one's side-iness that came about. It wants to say everybody can be a Buddhist, you don't have to be a monk,. So it's for men and women, any caste, even in India at that time there was caste, any background. And if you look deeply at the Buddhist teaching of conditionality, everything's coming into so many conditions - all things are possible.
