The Importance of Romance in Science
For me, science has always been the art of understanding truth and beauty. When I see something which is just quintessentially beautiful, I can find that as stimulating as something which is artistic or scientific. One of the programs we had a fossil, and it had one of the very first flowers. The fact that you could touch it with your hand, eat, touch that mark with your finger, I find those sorts of things incredibly uplifting. And there were a couple of times in the program, and I just touched something. Fossils, meteorites, something like that. It's going to be controversial. But I think romance has a role to play in science.
