Today's moral issues will play differently in the future in ways we never can anticipate. The idea behind the judgment of history is that in the future we'll look back to the past and make an accurate assessment, unsullied by the present. That almost never happens. And even when it does, it gets erased, d emphasized or forgotten to meet the demands of the day. So it becomes a less than galvanizing aspect of american life, or it could cause an angry back lash. We don't know.
