Is the Lighthouse a Public Good?
In 18 51, there was a commission in britain to investigate the provision of lighthouses. The issue was that despite our maritime heritage, we had rather few lighthouses using old technology. This was particularly irksome for british people. Whereas the french, and indeed the americans, actally, i had modern lighthouse using modern french technology. So this is exactly what you read about in economics text books. And indeed, the fresna light was invented, which they went for government funding,. I think it's an interesting fact. Maybe if we hadn't gone to the moon, we would have had the wheely suit case earlier, actually.
