Japanese Poems With Chinese Influence
Public klaut aristocrats of the period relied on anything chinese for any sort of public writing. Japanese was reserved for private works, like poems you might compile in one of these small literary salons. The peak of this trend towards chinese influence came during the reign of the saga and junna emperors. By the late eight hundreds a cultural reaction against the extreme emulation of china began to swing in the other direction. A renewed focus on the idea of poetry as a rational act became an important part of waka poets' work.
