Leonardo's Contribution to Neuroanatomy

When did we start to realize that the brain really is the center of almost everything we do? I think it varied in different cultures. The big landmark was the Roman physician Galen, who did the first beautifully illustrated the sections of the human body. Leonardo as well actually made enormous contributions. He just didn't write many of them down, didn't publish many of them. So he could have been also this major figure in neuroscience had he published what the work he'd done in neuroanatomy.
