The Origins of the Visigoths
The Visigoths are a new alliance formed mostly, I think, of groups that were already Goths on Roman soil amongst those who made the decision to move. Three main contingents make up the Visigoths: Vingy and Groitungi, Radagayzus and Alaric. The Ostrogothic confederation is put together partly on Roman soil as Attila's Hunnic Empire unwinds. All of its constituent parts have been under Hunnic control for at least one generation or more.
