Anthropology and the Study of State Power

Anthropologists have been studying the state for a long time, you know, over 100 years. And I think anthropological studies of the state are really useful in terms of looking at this. It doesn't have to just be limited to notions of a Foucaultian panopticon and things like that. Whenever you're thinking about state power, if you can add an analysis of what the state is doing to monitor and make legible, the people that are living under the state, I think it's important.
