The Effects of Soap on the Skin Microbiome
Teresa McPhel is a medical anthropologist and author of the book Allergic are irritated bodies in a changing world. She spoke with James Hamblin who writes that our skin is better off if we do less showering, he stopped showering for a long period of time. Teresa: I was fascinated to learn the degree to which soap marketing had shaped the beliefs of the American public as far as what we consider to be necessary for health. We're not separate from the microbiome we are the microbiome.
