The First State Police in the United States
The first force specifically and explicitly created as a state police was in massachusetts in 18 65. In 19 o five, the big cities in pennsylvania already had their own police forces. Philadelphia's dated back to the 18 fifties. But after 19 hundred, the state legislature was dominated to a great degree by the coal mining industry. And this wave of strikes really scared the state governmentou no the possibility of crime,. rebellion, and also of simply losing this lucrative industry.
