The Systematicity of English
It's really ineffective to just teach children what are known as sight words. If you get them to learn the whole dictionary, it's just not worth it on the amount of knowledge that you'd have to gain. English is one of the most terrible writing systems invented in the history of humanity. Almost any language ever is written better than English.
