The Discovery of the Ready Potential
The discovery of the readiness potential was certainly a big deal scientifically, as it showed that the brain really does have a direct role in bringing about an action. In Kornjuber and Diki's experiments hinted at some interesting philosophical questions too. The experience of free will, as it were, is just as much an effect of the realization of the readiness possible as the subsequent physical movements.
