Fetch sessions is an optimization where the follower doesn't have to constantly tell the leader because it's a pool-based model. If there are partitions for which you're not sending any data, then the followers don't necessarily have to send it in its next record. The very first replica in that one, two, three, we call it the preferred leader. And this kind of allows you during placement to decide how leaders will be placed across the board.
