I started writing because I had always enjoyed writing and discovered through the process of writing, I really got to know myself better. And then that's always the next step: How do I monetize it? How do I get readers on it? What do people want to read? Then you start writing for the results rather than writing for whatever the mission or vision is. If you're doing it as a living, you have to balance the outcome with that quality and that value - there's nuances to it. You're never going to be able to swing too far one direction or the other.
