King was a supporter of the 1968 Memphis sanitation workers strike. Fast forward to 1977 and you have Maynard Jackson, the black mayor of Atlanta,. Same thing, sanitation workers strike, they're living poverty wages. Some of them have to go on welfare to be able to survive. It's 11 years difference. And the kind of economic vision, the radical vision of a working class insurgency that could change the nation is replaced by a black leadership class promoting the kind of neoliberal policies.
