The Importance of Neutral Laws in Christianity

The British Empire, the height of its power, used its navy to end the slave trade. So Christendom's record is not perfect, but it's like, what are we comparing it against? Do we have to have purportedly neutral laws? And what does that do to the population and the society? Is it actually possible on this side of an eternity to have a just lawful arrangement?
