How to Sell Your Research to the Public
There's not a lot of extrinsic reward for writing to the public. Increasingly, people look at it as a good thing rather than not such a good thing. So there's a few things to keep in mind in a pitch. One is just mechanical just to keep it short because you want somebody to look at it when they open the email and not just go, oh, I'll read this later.
