E. Jean Carroll published her memoir, What Do We Need Men For? A Modest Proposal,. In this, she described being raped by Donald Trump in 1996. Before the book came out, New York Magazine published an excerpt in which she described the assault. The following month, Carol sued Trump for defamation and he fought tooth and nail to get out from under it. He ducked a process server for weeks and he instructed his counsel not to accept service. Then Bill Barr swooped in two years after the complaint was filed and removed it to federal courtunder the Westfall and federal tort claims acts.
