The Origins of Witchcraft
Scott didn't really make much of the distinction between bad witches and good witches or wise women as they were commonly known at the time. He then gave a long list of the various terms that were used to refer to a witch. Some had been around since the Middle English period like enchanter, soothsayer, diviner, caulkar, and conjurer. Scott also said that a witch was sometimes called an obe or obbe which was apparently a Hebrew word for a spirit.
