The Weeknd's Blinding Lights
Too Close was a sleeper hit in the spring of 1998. The R&B trio from Minneapolis built the groove of Too Close out of a slowed down replay of Curtis Blow's 1980 hit Christmas Rapid. Abel Tessfeig, the Torontonian better known as The Weeknd, threw way back to the 80s before he was born for his mega smash Blinding Lights. In total, Blinding Lights spent a record 90 weeks on the Hot 100.
