The Cost of Quality Measures

When a measure becomes a target it ceases to be a good measure. Money spent on low value care is less money to spend on helping the less fortunate. A single study done at Johns Hopkins identified 162 unique metrics pause there not 10 or 20 or even 100 162 quality metrics. The author's conclusions in JAMA significant resources are expended exclusively for quality reporting and some methods of quality assessment are far more expensive than others.
