The Pros and Cons of Palantology
The trade in fossils is obviously something that the Chinese are very anxious to control. I think that anything exported from China since 1980 is illegal. The anxiety must obviously be that dinosaurs have become the must have thing for billionaires and that does threaten obviously to elbow Palantologists out of the market. But having said that the beginnings of Palantology was absolutely rooted in commerce. Mary Anning, lime regis, sea shells on the sea shore digging up ichthyosaurs and plesiosaurs and pterosaurs - she's doing that for commercial gain. So that does end up getting in the way of science but it seems to me it's almost inevitable especially with how much poverty there
