I was acutely aware of the churning sentiment and emotion that were surging around Scottish politics in 2015. I tried to match the emotion of national identity with class solidarity. Trying to establish affinities between working people in South Wales or in Northern Ireland or Yorkshire with those in Scotland. It was like trying to teach a congregation a hymn that they'd forgotten the words to. A previous generation of labour politicians had been very comfortable being proud Scottish patriots but never political nationalists. And if you like every day Alex Amund and Nicholas Sturgeon woke up and sought to break down that barrier between patriotism and nationalism with some of it. That's very interesting and with kind of questions that will by the way
