The Queer Composition of America Sound

There are some serious academic studies in how sexuality is affected music through the ages. Many of America's biggest classic composers, from Leonard Bernstein to Aaron Copeland, were not only gay, but that their gayness can be heard in their music. The people we talked about on this program put themselves out there in various ways, often risking everything by doing so. It was a huge, huge gamble, and sometimes a very big sacrifice. Our music and our society is better for it.
